What's Behind The Name
"Trekka"

The original Trekka was built by John Guzzwell in Victoria, British Columbia at the back of Johnny Bell's Fish and Chips and launched into the Inner Harbor in August, 1954. Trekka means “to journey” and journey she did – from Victoria around the world and back again! Trekka left Victoria on September 10, 1955 and sailed to Hawaii, then on to New Zealand, Australia, The Indian Ocean, The Cape of Good Hope, across the Atlantic, through the Panama Canal. She returned to Victoria just over four years later. At only 18' 6" at the water line Trekka became the smallest sailboat to ever circumnavigate the globe at that time. John Guzzwell went on to write a novels about his epic journey called: "Trekka Round The World"

Trekka is now owned and displayed by The Maritime Museum of British Columbia.
