I was one of the sh!t eating, side stepping, hard-shelled beach creatures that worked on Truxtun during its overhaul period at PSNS in Bremerton in 1974-75. As an apprentice marine electrician I got stuck with all the lousy jobs but still enjoyed roaming around the ship. Loved it. The only place I didn't enjoy was going up on the masts while pulling in new radio cables...makes me dizzy just remembering it. Take care, Bob

EM3 Nuke, Forward engine room from April 78 to May 80. I got a chance to take my kids on a tour of the ship in Bremerton about a week before it was to be cut up. They got a kick out of it as did I. I wish I could have taken my sons up to A&E birthing to see where I lived. But I did get to see some areas I couldn't have while I was on board. I was sorry to see Tommy go, but happy for one last visit.

If I had two weeks to live, I would want to spend it on the Truxtun, because it would seem like two years. I hope no one thinks this is a reflection on my opinion of the crew. There were some talented people there, and most of them put up with me longer than they should have been expected to. I truly hope everybody is well, and navigating through civilian life and middle age. This site is great, and brings back some emotions not visited for some time...for me. Thanks, and God be with all of you, Doug Ashworth (summer of 1971-February, 1974 when I swapped with Dave Amundson to get off, and he came back)

DEAR FRIEND, I know something so wonderful that I must tell you! its so vital that it may change your entire future As it did mine. in fact, the decision you make about it will affect you both in life and death. God gives eternal life to those who believe in JESUS CHRIST,the savior has finished the work,he Has dead.he has risen from the grave, and has gone back to heaven. now your part is to believe in Him.this simply means that you must agree that you are a sinner, realize that CHRIST has paid the Full panalty for your sins, than receive him as your Lord and personal savior.think about it.NO JESUS CHRIST,no life.
JESUS CHRIST IS LORD. <holy_lord1@yahoo.fr>

I was aboard from December 7, 1988 until May 5, 1991. I remember a lot of the guys in my Div. Deck Div. Samples "Jr" comes to mind, some of it is a little fuzzy, like a lot of the Liberty ports were the next day. I made BM3 and left for BMU-1 in San Diego. I was stationed with BM2 Withrow, BM3 Schanzle and lets see BM 3 Lynde s.P. Lind anyway a lot of the names on this site bring back memories. I never got the Westpac 91' book and regret it. If anyone reads this and has a way to get one call me at (603) 455-6173 Ray.

Hey Pete, I thought I would have seen you or Harvey on the World Poker Tour by now. Dr. Paul Cunningham, Lawyer Tim Kerber, (Retired) Keith Lachappelle, Still Buff William D Clark, Captain America Earl Davis, "Scram IT" Greg Fletcher and Right Wing Hippy Scott Young say "Hello". I see these guys all the time, we live and work together in a commune fashioned to look like the hull of the Truxtun. I see Maury Miller from time to time on the 114 bus from Bellevue. EM1, August 1969 - December 1972 I woke up in the wee hours of the morning of my 57th birthday inexplicably thinking about the USS Truxton. I couldn't get it off of my mind and get back to sleep. So I got up and started searching the Internet for Truxton sites and found, among other, this one. I was sad to learn that she'd been decommissioned. Gone, but not forgotten. Time to dig out my old Cruise Books, I guess. Hey, does anyone have a really good hi-res scan of Truxton?
